Frequently Asked Questions

Everything you need to know about medical wigs, comfort, and care

Are HALO wigs covered by insurance?+
Many insurance plans cover medically necessary wigs — also called 'cranial prostheses' — for hair loss caused by chemotherapy, alopecia, and other medical conditions. HALO wigs are designed with this in mind. After your purchase, we provide an itemized receipt and a letter of medical necessity template you can give to your doctor and insurer. Coverage varies by plan, so check with your provider. Need help? Email us at care@halo.care and our team can guide you through the process.
Can I wear a HALO wig during chemotherapy treatment?+
Yes. HALO wigs are specifically designed for wear during active treatment. Our caps use ultra-soft, no-itch bamboo and breathable mesh materials, with velvet-lined edges that don't rub or irritate a tender scalp. We recommend the Comfort rest wig for days when you want the softest option possible, and always follow your care team's guidance about scalp health.
How do I wear a wig on a sensitive scalp?+
Start by letting your scalp breathe — if it feels tender, you can wear a soft cotton or bamboo wig liner underneath. Choose one of our ultra-soft cap styles (like Hope or Comfort) that don't require clips, glues, or pins. Use the adjustable straps and no-slip grip band to fit gently, never tightly. Remove your wig at night to let your scalp rest, and keep it clean with a mild, fragrance-free shampoo.
What size should I order for hair loss?+
Most HALO wigs fit petite to average head sizes (20.5-22.5 inches) and feature fully adjustable straps and elastic bands, so they accommodate thinning hair or complete hair loss comfortably. If you measure between 23-24 inches, our Faith wig offers an average-to-large cap. Measure around your head at the hairline, just above the ears, to find your size — and if you're between sizes, choose the adjustable option you can customize.
How do I wash my wig during treatment?+
Wash your HALO wig gently every 8-12 wears using lukewarm water and a mild, sulfate-free, fragrance-free shampoo. Support the cap with both hands and soak rather than scrub. For synthetic styles, use a conditioner made for synthetic fibers. Air dry on a wig stand away from direct heat. If your scalp is sensitive, avoid heavy styling products and opt for a gentle leave-in spray instead.
Will the wig stay on during the day?+
Yes. Most HALO styles feature our no-slip silicone grip band plus adjustable straps, so the wig stays securely in place through a full day of movement — no glue, clips, or pins needed. For extra peace of mind on active days, the Comfort sleep wig uses a stretchy knit cap that hugs gently and stays put even lying down.
What's the difference between human hair and synthetic HALO wigs?+
Human hair styles (like Grace and Faith) look and move the most naturally and can be colored and heat-styled, but they need more care and are higher in price. Synthetic styles (like Hope, Serenity, and Courage) hold their pre-styled look with zero effort, are lighter and more affordable, and are often the best choice for a sensitive scalp. Many customers own one of each for different days.
Can I sleep in a HALO wig?+
Yes — that's exactly what our Comfort rest wig is designed for. Its stretchy bamboo-knit cap stays put without pressure points and is soft enough to sleep in. For our other styles, we recommend removing your wig at night to let your scalp breathe and to preserve the style.
What is your return policy?+
We offer a 30-day return policy. Because of hygiene and medical safety, the wig must be unworn, unaltered, and with all original packaging and tags intact. Once your return is received and inspected, we'll issue a full refund to your original payment method within 5-7 business days.
Do you offer support for caregivers and family members?+
Absolutely. Many of our customers are caregivers buying for a loved one. If you're not sure which piece is right, email us at care@halo.care with a few details (how much coverage, scalp sensitivity, lifestyle) and our team will personally help you choose. We're here for the whole journey.
